My name is Susan Shaw. I live in Perkasie, Pennsylvania with my husband Harry and have three wonderful successful children, Melissa, Michael (his wife Kristen), and Murphy and one beautiful grandchild Dylan. I have been training and competing with retrievers for almost 20 years.
I started out in the breed ring; fulfilling a life long dream I had of finishing two home bred champions. That completed, I went on to fulfill another dream of breeding, training and handling my own Master National Hunter Retriever in a rare breed where it had never been done before, and I did that three times. I have qualified 7 dogs at the Master National Retriever Club, two of which were my own curly coated retrievers and the others were friends’ Labrador retrievers.
I trained for 5 years with a professional field trial trainer and have trained with many well-known amateur trainers as well. To date, I have qualified four master hunters, two senior hunters and multiple junior dogs.
Currently, I have Karla, my lab, training for field trials in the future. She is doing a great job so far. I have Chukk, my curly just getting started on his swim-by, and my beautiful little Amy (Pitboss Black Cork Coot) puppy who is doing well on her T work. I also have Chukk’s grandfather, Frank, who is now my “Tower Shoot” dog, and my husband’s hunting dog, Dino. They are the senior citizens of the Chocca-Shaw crew.
I enjoy helping newcomers and have done several beginners field-training seminars over the years. I am an 8 pointed AKC Master Judge and have been judging since 1998. I love training and competing with the dogs and traveling all over the United States to do so. I have met many interesting people and have made many close friends over the years.
